Couple therapy is a process that aims to help couples who may or may not be married but are in a committed relationship, or are considering making a commitment to each other. Couple therapists work towards strengthening the relationship between two individuals. While helping two people grow their relationship and grow in the relationship is usually the aim of such therapy, sometimes when there are huge differences or a high degree of conflict, therapy also plays the role of helping couples decide whether they want to stay together, separate or divorce. Often, with the help of therapy, a couple can go through a somewhat amicable, thought through and planned separation, which is critically important when the couple has children who are likely to feel the impact of the separation.
