Individual Psychotherapy or Counselling

Individual psychotherapy or counselling is sometimes known as “talk therapy”. It is a collaborative process where the therapist helps the client reach specific objectives and goals that the client has identified for himself/herself. Psychotherapy typically involves talking about one’s feelings, thoughts and behaviour. One can talk about the past and/or the present but the focus is largely on how things can be changed in the present. The process of change often begins with gaining an insight into what is causing distress. Overcoming the obstacles/challenges to finding peace or happiness in one’s life may involve changing one’s perspective, behaviour, or specific thoughts. Hence, conversations in therapy often revolve around these aspects.
